The Bench

In the midst of the park
there are castles in the sand
Underneath the noble oak tree
they have placed me to stand

The devoted young mother
has her child on her knee
The little girl with dimples
jumps upon me

The weather worn man
sits to feed the birds
The teenagers surround me
as if in a herd

The little boy with freckles
has left behind crumbs
The dignified lady
just sat on his gum

So many affairs
like the lovers first kiss
A heart warming occurrence
I never seem to miss

In the center of my lap
he has just carved in me
A heart around her name
an everlasting memory
